- The Committee on Decentralization and Local Self-Government, chaired by the Government of the Province of Barcelona, has as its main objective to strengthen decentralization and local-self government processes with the aim of improving local governance in every region of the world.
In this framework the Committee focuses on the following specific objectives:
- Promoting effective decentralization and local-self-government,
- Supporting the Global Observatory on Decentralization and Local Democracy
- Lobbying for the adoption of international principles on decentralization. The work of the Committee contributes to the strategy of the World organization of United Cities and Local Governments on this field.
The Committee, that is chaired by Salvador Esteve, President of the Province of Barcelona (Spain), has four Vice-Presidents representing different Regional Sections and Nadel Ghazal, Mayor of Tripoli (Lebonan) is the Vice-President from MEWA Section.
