Global Fund for Cities Development


The preparatory meeting for the Global Fund for Cities Development (GFCD) was held in Istanbul on 24 June 2010.

The preparatory meeting for the Global Fund for Cities Development (GFCD) was held in Istanbul on 24 June 2010 at the invitation of the Mayor of Istanbul and Co-President of United Cities Local Governments (UCLG), Mr. Kadir Topbaş. The meeting was called to validate the founding documents and operating structure and these targets were fully met.

The workday brought together around forty participants, including elected officials and technicians representing local authorities and organizations from across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

At the end of the meeting, the local authorities present reaffirmed their desire to be members of the GFCD and to formally commit to the process of its establishment, which will take place in Barcelona on 7 October during the first Founding General Assembly Meeting.

The Global Fund for Cities Development (GFCD) is a technical assistance, financial engineering and, funding instrument, imagined and desired by local authorities who are members of UCLG and its METROLIS Section to serve development of their local areas.
