UNHCR visited UCLG-MEWA Office 23.01.2014

UCLG-MEWA’s Project Team welcomed UNHCR to explore possible partnership within the framework of UCLG-MEWA’s Syrian Refugee Project on Tuesday 21 January 2014. During the meeting, the Project Team presented UCLG World Organization and UCLG-MEWA’s activities. Discussions on collaboration with UNHCR included UCLG-MEWA’s Project for Syrian Refugees and possible connections with UCLG Committee for Urban Health and Child Friendly Cities Program. UNHCR representatives presented its own actions in Turkey such as the promotion of Human Rights for refugees and the assistance to Syrian refugees and UNHCR recognized the importance of local authorities’ role in crisis situation and welcomed the idea to open collaboration with Turkish Municipalities. After this first technical meeting UNHCR and UCLG-MEWA will establish a roadmap to develop common activities.
