Established by the invitatio of UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon’, the second meeting of UN High Level Panel on Eminent Persons on Post 2015 Development Agenda took place in London on November 1, 2012. Chaired by the Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Mr. David Cameron, the panel adopted the general objectives and discussed basic concerns. Mr.David Cameron said ‘‘The actions to eradicate the poverty should be defined and necessary steps should be taken to update the Millenium Development Goals’’.
UCLG President Dr. Kadir Topbaş made an intervention in the session on ‘‘Human Development’’ saying that being in close contacts with citizens, local governments carried out the most influential work to realize the Millennium Development Goals and contributed to global development thanks to their quick responses on sharing their experiences with other local governments. He also added: ‘‘Let’s be realistic. Poverty should be addressed not only in one dimension such as food safety, but in a multi dimensional way. In this context while creating the vision of the panel, eradicating the poverty should be considered as the main theme, and topics to support the main theme such as employment, justice, equality and sustainable development should be dealt as side themes’’.
