UCLG-MEWA VISITED FATIH MUNICIPALITY 25.02.2015

On 24 February 2015, a delegation from UCLG-MEWA composed of Ms. Randa AL SABBAGH, Project Officer Responsible for the Committee on Smart Cities and Ms. Sumeyye SARAL, Project Officer Responsible for the Committee on Environment, paid a visit to Ms. Biricik KAZAN, Director of Information Technology Department in the Municipality of Fatih in Istanbul within the framework of the activities of the Committee on Smart Cities.

Ms. KAZAN introduced the different projects and activities which the Municipality is working on in the field of New Technologies and which are used to provide a better and higher quality of services to citizens. Ms. KAZAN made a detailed presentation of the Urban Information System such as the Geographic Information System (GIS) combined with the Management Information System (MIS) which provides all types of “urban data” such as facilities, urban planning, environment, disaster prevention, water supply, transportation, etc.

The UCLG-MEWA delegation presented the activities and committees of the organization. They invited Fatih Municipality to be a member in the Committee on Smart Cities and stressed on the importance of this membership as it will allow the municipality to participate in international events to share its activities and receive knowledge from others participants and will also extend its network internationally. Ms. KAZAN welcomed the idea and was interested to participate in UCLG-MEWA events.
