UCLG-MEWA VISITED BÜYÜKÇEKMECE MUNICIPALITY 13.02.2015

On 6 February 2015 a UCLG-MEWA delegation composed of Adrien Licha, Project Coordinator, and E. Gökçe Yanık, Supervisor of UCLG-MEWA Committee on Gender Equality, visited Büyükçekmece Municipality in order to discuss the possible cooperation opportunities between the respected institutions. In the meeting, Ms. Selin Burçak Ünal, Director of International Relations presented the activities of Büyükçekmece Municipality. She introduced in detail the projects of the municipality that are on progress and also planned. The officers from Büyükçekmece Municipality stressed their interest especially in the Committees on Gender Equality and Environment. Moreover, they indicated that Sister City Projects have strong importance for them and therefore they look for more cooperation between cities.

After the presentation of Büyükçekmece Municipality, UCLG-MEWA and its committees were presented. Mr. Adrien Licha gave information about the latest news from UCLG-MEWA. He also introduced the project of UCLG-MEWA such as Child Friendly Cities. Ms. Gökçe Yanık, gave information about the newly established UCLG-MEWA Committee on Gender Equality. She highlighted the importance of such a committee in MEWA region and invited Büyükçekmece Municipality to become a member of the committee.

At the end of the meeting it was agreed to enhanced the cooperation between UCLG-MEWA and Büyükçekmece Municipality and work on possible projects.
