UCLG-MEWA SECRETARY GENERAL VISITED CONSUL GENERAL OF IRAN 9.01.2015

Mehmet DUMAN, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, and Salim KORKMAZ, Coordinator of Relations with International Organizations, visited Mr. Mortezai FAR, Consul General of Islamic Republic of Iran in Istanbul in his office on 8 January 2015.  At the meeting which was organized within the context of ensuring cooperation with the Istanbul representatives of the countries in the UCLG-MEWA Region, Mr Mehmet DUMAN, gave information about the activities of UCLG-MEWA during 2014 and presented samples of the periodical and non-periodical publications of UCLG-MEWA to Mr. FAR. The Consul General was also informed briefly about the UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting and Smart Cities and Innovation Summit which was held in Adana, Turkey on 19-20 December 2014 and about the planned activities of UCLG-MEWA for 2015. On the occasion of the visit the invitation for membership letters which were prepared for the mayors of twelve major Iranian cities were given to Mr. FAR to be delivered to the relevant mayors.

Mr. FAR emphasized that he is following the intensive activities of UCLG-MEWA on urban diplomacy with great admiration and expressed his wish to pay a return visit within the shortest time to the UCLG-MEWA Secretariat General in Sultanahmet. Mentioning the terrorist attack on 6 January 2015 which resulted in death of a policeman in Tourism Police Station which is located next to the UCLG-MEWA Secretariat General, Mr. FAR extended his condolences and condemned all kinds of terror.

The visit which took place in a warm atmosphere, ended after the presentation of a plaque to Mr. FAR by Mehmet DUMAN.
