UCLG-MEWA PARTICIPATES IN THE PLATFORMA MEETING 16.10.2014

Dr. Ihsan Ikizer, UCLG-MEWA General Coordinator, gave a speech in the seminar on “Local Governments and Development”, organized by PLATFORMA on 24th-25th of September 2014 in Amman, Jordan. Mayors and representatives of more than local governments, from Egypt, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine attended this meeting. As representative of UCLG-MEWA , Dr. Ikizer said on his speech “Local governments can have a more effective role in development when they have more authority , however, local government workers and society should believe this primarily.”   He also added “Local Governments to include NGOs, universities and public institutions in their city in the decision making process when they are using their authority, the process of decentralization will be easier and they can have the public support and the support of different actors.” Ultimately, Dr. Ikizer underlined the importance of focusing on capacity building for local governments to carry out their roles in development, decentralization and other responsibilities in a way to meet the expectations.

PLATFORMA, being the voice of local and regional authorities in Europe, maintains activities with EU funds.
