UCLG-MEWA LOCAL GOVERNMENT TALKS CONTINUE WITH INCREASING INTEREST 8.01.2015

The interest is gradually increasing for the Local Government Talks, 9^th session of which took place in UCLG-MEWA Secretariat General in Sultanahmet, Istanbul on 14 December 2014, where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tarkan OKTAY, Deputy Head of the Department Political Science and Public Administration in the Faculty of Political Sciences of Istanbul Medeniyet University, made a speech, titled ‘’Participatory Democracy and Municipal Assemblies’’.

In his speech, Mr. OKTAY gave significant information about the topics of governance, decision making mechanisms of municipal assemblies, social layers to what council members belong, and opportunities for citizens’ participation in the decision making processes. He also shared his observations with the participants on relevant subjects. The question and answer part of the conference witnessed beneficial exchanges between the guest speaker and the participants.  Subsequent to presentation of a plaque to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tarkan OKTAY by Mr. Mehmet DUMAN, Secretary General of UCLG-MEWA, the event ended with a refreshment reception.
