Secretary General of UCLG-MEWA Mr. Mehmet DUMAN paid an official visit to Consul General of the Republic of Iraq in Istanbul 6.11.2013

On 1st of November 2013, Mr. Mehmet DUMAN, the Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia, paid a visit to the Consul General of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Hassan Swadi Abu Tabikh, in Istanbul.

Mr. DUMAN presented UCLG-MEWA organization and its activities to the Consul General. He also submitted invitation letters to the mayors of the Republic of Iraq to become members in UCLG-MEWA organization with the final goal to share their experiences with other municipalities of Middle East and West Asia region.

Besides, Mr. DUMAN invited the Consul General and the Iraqi mayors to participate in the UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau and Council Joint Meeting to be held on 19-20 December 2013 in Konya (Turkey) and to be hosted by Konya Metropolitan Municipality. There will be two thematic workshops on the following topics: "Contributions of Local Diplomacy to Regional and World Peace” and "Innovative Practices in Local Governments".

Finally, Mr. DUMAN presented a small gift to the Consul General and extended his gratitude for his kind welcoming and hospitality.
