PROF.DR. AHMET EMRE BILGILI WAS THE GUEST of 7TH of LOCAL GOVERNMENT TALKS 17.10.2014

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Emre BILGILI, Istanbul Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism made a speech on “Local Governments and Culture” in Sultanahmet, headquarters of United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Section on 15th October 2014.

Dr. Bilgili, in the program being the one of sessions of UCLG-MEWA Local Government Talks, state that the city gives a message to the citizens and what’s important is to get this. He touched on cultural diversity of Istanbul saying that Istanbul is neither East nor West; it is a city which has a rich cultural heritage of both. ‘Istanbul is an inheritance for us’ he underlined and emphasized that like Mehmet the Conqueror adopted his policy to protect the city, we need to have the same sensibility. Bilgili describes Istanbul as an open-air museum and he said people who are more related with culture in Istanbul, they have the tendency to spot the accumulation of the city more. At the last part of the conference with vast majority, Mehmet DUMAN, Secretary General of UCLG-MEWA, presented a plaque to Prof. Dr. Ahmet Emre BILGILI.
