NATURAL DISASTER IN AFGHANISTAN 8.05.2014
Afghanistan is a very colorful country where Turkish, Indian and Persian cultures can be observed clearly. Afghanistan, which is represented in UCLG-MEWA through Kabul Municipality, gained its independence in 1919. The first municipality in the country was founded by King Emanullah administration in the same year. There are 34 provincial municipalities and local municipalities in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan, which has a deep-rooted local government history, has recently suffered from a landslide disaster. We, as UCLG-MEWA, extend our condolences to the Afghan people for this disaster which claimed lives of 2100 people and displaced many others. In this context, Mr. Mehmet DUMAN, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General has expressed his grief, through the letter of condolences he has sent to Mr. Muhammad Yunus Nawandish, Mayor of Kabul.
