LOCAL AND REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS ENGAGED TOWARDS A POST - 2015 FRAMEWORK FOR DISASTER RISK REDUCTION 7.08.2014
The First Session of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in 2015 concluded on 15th July and was attended by more than 600 participants, including Ministers, Ambassadors, local and regional elected officials, as well as representatives from the private, academic and civil society sectors.
UCLG World Secretariat would like to thank all those who took part in the PrepCom, including those who could not participate in person and supported the process with important suggestions and contributions.
Herewith, we are pleased to share the Official Statement which was delivered by Ms. Fatimetou Abdel Malick, Mayor of Tevragh-Zeina, Mauritania, on behalf of the Local Governments’ Major Group at the Plenary session.
You will also find attached the three statements for the Chair’s Dialogues that were read on behalf of our Major Group by the Vice Mayor of Bogota, Colombia, the Mayor of Yogyakarata, Indonesia, and the Regional Government of Potenza, Italy.

Registration for the Second PrepCom
The Second Preparatory Committee meeting will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on 17th-18th November 2014. The deadline for registration for this meeting is 10th September.
As with the first PrepCom, registration for the second Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee will be managed by UCLG. We encourage all interested local governments, city representatives and partners to contact us immediately and get registered (m.boussraoui@uclg.org).
Local elected officials who are part of a National Delegation do not need to register separately.
We look forward to seeing a larger gathering of Mayors and Local and regional representatives at the second PrepCom.
World Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction
Preparations are well underway for the World Conference that will take place in Sendai, Japan, from 14th-18th March. Apart from the official round tables, several multi-stakeholder events focusing on local and urban resilience are being planned for the Conference.
Registration for the World Conference will open by the end of July and close on 30th November. We will keep you informed about this process.
