KADİR TOPBAŞ ADDRESSED THE ROLE OF CITIES IN ECONOMIC GROWTH, IN LIVERPOOL 24.06.2014

How the sustainable economic growth may be ensured in the periods of austerity was discussed in the panel discussion held in St. George’s Hall, within the framework of the UCLG Executive Bureau in Liverpool, UK, on 18^th of June, 2014.

Dr. Kadir Topbaş, UCLG President and Mayor of Istanbul stated that cities are the battlefields of the war fought for development and equality, during the second session, titled “Cities for Development and Equality”. Topbaş, who stated that growth does not necessarily contain equality; added that local governments are of key significance in economic growth, employment and social development, in addition to provision of basic services.
