International conference on Local Governments and Civil Society Organizations in Support of Palestinian Rights
2-3 December, Seville
Dear members,
It was decided, at the UCLG Executive Bureau in June 2014, that the international conference on Local Governments and Civil Society Organizations in Support of Palestinian Rights will be held on December 2nd and 3rd in Seville, Spain.
The UCLG Working Group on Local Governments and Cooperation in the Middle East is a member of the Steering Committee along with the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), the Junta of Andalusia and the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People of the United Nations. The International Conference is being organized as part of the programme of events of the International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, declared by the UN General Assembly resolutions 68/12 and 68/13 of 26 November 2013.
The objective of the event is to catalyze action by civil society and local governments in solidarity with the Palestinians and to promote accountability for violations of human rights and international law. Also, by organizing this event, the organizers wish to make a successful contribution to the International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
We also have the pleasure to invite you to the first meeting of the Task Force on Local and Regional Government Disaster Response. This meeting will take place during the next UCLG World Council in Haikou:
