Aziz Kocaoğlu

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, UCLG-MEWA Co-President

Aziz Kocaoğlu, who was born in Tokat in 1948, graduated from Ege University - Faculty of Economics in 1973. Receiving his Master’s degree in Istanbul University, Business Administration in 1974, Kocaoglu worked as accounting expert in a public organization between 1975 – 1978, and held a managerial position in private sector between 1978–1979. He established his own business in 1979. He started working in soil industry in 1986 through a joint venture.

Starting his political life in CHP (Republican People’s Party) Youth Branch, Kocaoglu worked as CHP Bornova Deputy District Commissioner in 2001–2003. He was elected as Mayor of CHP Bornova on March 28, 2004; he was later elected Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality with unanimous vote on June 21, 2004. He was elected as Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality once again with %56 dominant vote on 29th of March 2009 election.

Aziz Kocaoglu is married and has two children.
