7th INTERNATIONAL EURASIA CONFERENCE OF WORLD HERITAGE CITIES 2.09.2014

The 7^th International Eurasia Conference of World Heritage Cities, was held successfully on 24-27 August 2014 in Aktau, Kazakhstan, with the cooperation of UCLG-EURASIA, Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), UNESCO and Aktau Governorate.

Mehmet DUMAN, Secretary General of UCLG-MEWA, Yusuf Ziya YILMAZ Mayor of Samsun, Dr. Necdet AKSOY, Mayor of Safronbolu, Assoc. Dr. Fırat PURTAŞ, Secretary General of Union of Turkish World Municipalities, and A. Ziya YALÇINKAYA and Ayhan GÜRBÜZER vice mayors of Selçuklu attended the event from Turkey.  Sister city protocol was signed on the first day of the conference between Kazakh city of Aktau and Turkish city of Samsun.  On the second day Mehmet DUMAN presented a  paper on the protection of the architectural heritage.  Prominent Kazakh novelist Kekilbayev’s paper on the dispersion of Turkish tribes to Eurasia from Kazakh steppes drew attention in this session.  The conference ended with a family photo of the participants. 

After the quite successful bilateral talks, Mehmet DUMAN made productive contacts regarding the membership of Aktau and Samsun to UCLG-MEWA.  The Consul General of Republic of Turkey to Aktau Muteber KILIÇ accompanied and supported the Turkish delegation at every stage of the conference.

Mehmet DUMAN, Secretary General of UCLG-MEWA presented a plaque and variety of gifts to Alik AYDARBAYEV, regional governor, Yedil JANBIRŞİN, Governor of Aktau and Muteber KILIÇ, Consul General of Turkey during the contacts.
