2008 UCLG World Council (Istanbul) 27.04.2012

UCLG World Council and Executive Bureau meetings were held in Istanbul on 27-30 November 2008.

Hosted by UCLG Co-President and the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the ordinary meetings of UCLG World Council and the World Executive Bureau were held in Istanbul on 27-30 November 2008, with the participation of over 500 mayors, councilors and high level local officials representing their respective UCLG-member local authorities from all over the world.

UCLG World Councils meetings were held throughout the 4 days during 27-30 November 2008, encompassing a total of 33 sessions. Prior to the UCLG World Council and World Executive Bureau meetings, the series of meetings by the UCLG Committees and Working Groups were held on 27 October (Thursday) and 28 October 2008 (Friday), whereas the UCLG-MEWA Regional Council and Regional Executive Bureau meetings were held on 28 October 2008.

UCLG World Council and World Executive Bureau meetings were held consecutively on 29 October 2008 (Saturday) and 30 November 2008 (Sunday). Both meetings were preceded by discussions that took place on three subjects which are key for local governments and their citizens, namely the “financial crisis and its consequences”, “policies of social inclusion” and “prevention of disaster”.

The meetings and their respective sessions were held in Istanbul Hilton Hotel and Hilton Convention and Exhibition Center.
