URGENT ACTION:
CONTACT THE REPRESENTATION OF THE
EUROPEAN UNION IN YOUR COUNTRY

Dear Members,

Before September, the Diplomatic Representations of the European Union in the different countries of Africa, Latin America, Asia and Middle-East will communicate to Brussels the priority actions that will be eligible for financing in the framework of the thematic programme “Organizations of Civil Society and Local Authorities” for the coming years (2014-2020).

We invite the National Associations of Local Governments in each country to organize as soon as possible a meeting with the Ambassador of the European Union in order to request support for local authorities in the framework of this programme and to discuss priorities that can be included in the future financing.   

You will find attached a letter template that you may use for your National Association of Local Governments to help you request this meeting with the Representation of the European Union.

This initiative falls within the new cooperation policy with local and regional authorities which was adopted by the European Commission in May 2013. You can find a summary of this new policy in the communication attached: “Empowering Local Authorities in partner countries for enhanced governance and more effective development outcomes”.

On behalf of the UCLG World Secretariat and PLATFORMA, the coordination entity of European local and regional governments, we would be grateful if you could inform us of the outcomes of this process in order to ensure the follow-up with the European Commission in Brussels.
